Understanding Digital Photographs (Live Online)

This class introduces the nature of digital photographs, including the process and composition of scanned and "born digital" images.

Description:

We will look at the process and composition of scanned and "born digital" images, from scanners and cameras to how a digital image is created. Participants will also learn about image quality, various formats, storage methods, and maintenance key to preservation. This class aims to help participants understand their new (or soon to be created) digital images, and to help them develop strategies for good stewardship through changing technological standards. By the end of this class, participants will be able to understand the structure of digital photographs, and identify capture, format, and storage methods that best fit their institution.

Intended Audience:

This class is designed for staff members of libraries, archives and other cultural institutions looking to understand the basics of image capture and standards for storage and ongoing maintenance.

Notes:

Please note that registrations for this class must be received at least one week prior to the class date. Registrants should receive an email offering detailed login and set-up instructions. Please call the Educational Services Department at 800.999.8558 if you do not receive this email at least three days prior to the class. This course is designed for individual participation; each individual must register.
